In particular it's baffling that a game whose selling point is having eight main characters doesn't have a better way of integrating the characters you're not using - not only do you have to go back to an inn to switch, but they don't earn any XP, forcing you to grind them all up separately (and you need to use every character to reach the ending, so you're actually forced to do this.) It's weird when so many games have solved the problems of what to do with extra characters in various ways.Īlso, the fact that everyone's plotline is totally separate feels a bit awkward at times.
It has good writing and decent gameplay, but sometimes its retro design is frustrating. It's a decent game but it doesn't improve much on Octopath Traveler 1 - if you liked that game, this is basically more chapters of that, nothing more and nothing less.
